Over 3.6 lakh Indians have returned to India from overseas after the federal government launched the “Vande Bharat” evacuation mission on Could 7 in view of the coronavirus pandemic, the Ministry of Exterior Affairs mentioned on Thursday.

Exterior Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Anurag Srivastava mentioned a complete variety of 5,13,047 Indians have registered their request with Indian missions overseas for repatriation to India on compelling grounds.

“Greater than 84,000 Indians have returned by way of land border immigration checkpoints from Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh,” the MEA spokesperson mentioned.

“Within the first three phases of the Vande Bharat Mission, round 875 worldwide flights had been scheduled for operation from over 50 international locations throughout 5 continents. To date, greater than 700 of those flights have reached India, repatriating round 1,50,000 Indians,” Mr Srivastava mentioned.

These Vande Bharat Mission (VBM) flights have been instrumental in addressing the instant necessities of stranded Indians from many components of the world, Mr Srivastava mentioned.
